Justin Bieber has won Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist twice at the American Music Awards (2010, 2012) and this year he has his sights set on the record books. If he wins for the third time on Sunday night, as we're predicting, he will tie the record for the most victories in this category, which will put him in some pretty elite company: Eric Clapton, Michael Bolton, Michael Jackson and Barry Manilow have also won three. Bieber gets leading 21/20 odds. This is his fourth nomination in the category, and he has only ever lost it once — to Bruno Mars in 2011. Luckily for Bieber, Mars isn't nominated this year, and Bieber also has the important distinction of being nominated for Artist of the Year. So were the other two nominees in this category, Drake and The Weeknd, but when the top 10 nominees were narrowed down to five earlier this week, only Bieber made the final cut, which indicates stronger fan support.
But Drake also has significant support from our predictions contest entrants, who rank him a close second with 11/5 odds. Drake may not be in the running for Artist of the Year anymore, but he set a record for the most nominations in a single year (13), and his 2016 album "Views" was a big hit, selling more than 1.4 million copies and topping the Billboard 200 album chart for 13 non-consecutive weeks.
The Weeknd is a relative underdog with 4/1 odds. This is his first nomination in this category, though he previously won Soul/R&B Male Artist last year. He's nominated there again this year, but that's his only other bid at this event.
