The Power of Females!

*My album review will be up later on tonight, you get two for one today :) Happy February!

Recently, it has seemed like females have taken over the music industry. With many of the past number one hits in the country coming from female artists like Katy Perry's "Firework" and Britney Spears' "Hold It Against Me", the number one song on iTunes at the moment being P!nk's "F***ing Perfect", and all the reviews on my blog for the month of January being from females, it seems like they are ruling the world, which is not a terrible thing. For this post I have a few videos and songs from the girls that I think are amazing and deserving of a view or ten. Lets see if we are on the same page!

First up, hot off its premiere today, Rihanna's music video for "S&M" is everything that I thought it would be. In a nutshell, it is sexy, sultry, scandalous, and amazing all rolled into one. The song is catchy as hell and has been stuck in my head for weeks, the video just added so much more to the track. The video features crazy, bright colors, a lot of bondage, and unfortunately Perez Hilton. In my opinion, it is one of Rihanna's best and I have a feeling it will stir up a bit of controversy, but that is what makes it good. The video is fun, cute, raunchy and a great piece of work to support the artist's third single from her latest album, "Loud". Do you think Rihanna went too far with the video or does it represent the lyrics perfectly?

A few months ago I posted a new single, and its accompanying music video, for lead Pussycat Doll, turned solo artist, Nicole Scherzinger's "Poison". The song was an uptempo, club thumping track that has seen major success in many countries, but for some reason does not have a release date here in the states. The reason may be the fact that another track is being lined up for release, rumor has it sometime in March, for here in the U.S. "Don't Hold Your Breath" is a beautiful ballad with a touch of loud beats that proves to give the singer her long-awaited success on the U.S. charts. The track carries a message of empowerment and could relate to anyone who gives it a listen. I have shared the fact that I think Scherzinger deserves a successful solo career because she has the talent and vocals that are required. This song is another to add to her list of great moments and I am still anxiously waiting for her debut. What do you think of "Don't Hold Your Breath"?

Jennifer Lopez has been in the public eye for quite some time and 2010 was no different. With a new job as a judge on American Idol and a record label switch, J.Lo has been trying to release her seventh studio album, "Love?", for more than a year. The song "Louboutins", which I loved, did not match the success she has seen with previous lead singles and plans for the release date of the album kept getting pushed back. It is now 2011 and the album is moving down the right path with the release of a new lead single, "On The Floor feat. Pitbull". The song goes back to the dance roots that J.Lo is known for and really shows the energy that the artist has. The album is one that I am anticipating and this song is enough evidence that proves that Jenny from the block is coming back stronger than ever. Even though "Love?" still has no set release date, "On The Floor" is surely building excitement. How does "On The Floor" compare with other J.Lo tracks?

Last, but not least, Katy Perry has had an amazing year with three number one singles, "California Gurls", "Teenage Dream", and "Firework", and four Grammy nominations, but it is a recently leaked track that has been on my mind for a few days. "Part Of Me" is an upbeat, ballad-esque, type of song that, to me, also carries a female empowerment vibe. The track has been rumored to be featured on a re-release version of Perry's latest album, "Teenage Dream". It is modern sounding so I do not think it is an old demo, but I have a feeling Perry is planning a mini stand alone album, following in the footsteps of Lady Gaga and Ke$ha. The song is a beautiful performance by the singer, her best yet in my opinion, and if it is ever officially released I have a feeling it will be another number one hit. I like the softer side that Perry has been channeling recently, "Part Of Me" is soft, do you like it?
